COUNTY VERSES COUNTY
If you have not seen the county by county break down of the election here it is. It is amazing to see that the majority of the counties sided for Bush. Our culture seems to be divided by where we live. Rural and Suburban verses Urban living environments seem to determine whether or not we vote for the more liberal or conservative candidate. I currently live in the 3rd or 4th largest urban area of PA and they went with Kerry. Where as my home county in Ohio which is a suburban area went Bush. As you look at this map let me know if your county is rural, suburban, or urban and which candidate they choose.
Maybe the election process should factor in the quantity of property that wants to be governed by a particular candidate. I think this would in essence be a reflection of what the founding fathers had in mind when they went with two legislative branches. One branch (the House) has it's members determined by state population. While the Senate has only two members from every state. This was designed so that the smaller states would have a louder voice so the larger states would not over power them. As well as giving the larger states the loud voice they deserve due to their percentage of the population. This small change could protect the voice of the populations who have a larger land bases from those who have smaller land base. The electoral college does in some ways do this, but it was not designed for that purpose.
I suggest this change because it bothers me that the majority of counties in the USA want our nation to go in a particular direction, but due to a few counties with large populations in urban settings the elections are close. Personally this does not reflect the way the majority of our counties want to be governed. I feel this way because I believe in strong local governments and weaker state and nation governments. This to me would reflect the desires and wishes of each community better than what we have today. I am sure there are weaknesses in this idea, but I would like to see the rise of a smaller state and federal government. Personally I do not believe we will ever see the day the federal and state governments get smaller, but one can dream can't he.

This is the old fujiboots,
Over here where I am there are mostly liberals. I say this here other than my own sight so that if by chance I would not offend my fellow teachers by saying something wrong. I had heard from one of the teachers that this map you put up was highly interesting-also that those with a university degree, that is a BA or BS tend to vote Bush, where as those holding degrees higher, Masters and PHDs, voted in Kerry's direction. Ineresting.
I didn't vote, it was my own fault really. Absenty ballots needed to be postmarked by Oct. 10th and I failed to get out that ballot by the date or at all for that matter.
The teachers at my school, a mix of Americans, Aussies, and Brits, was predominantly looking to have Kerry as their next President. Even though many of them are not Americans. Well it is interesting. I'm keeping my nose out of it this time!
